While undergoing IVF, many patients need to be taken care of, especially their diet and physical and mental well-being. If we talk about physical health, many IVF patients have questions about exercising during IVF, which can help them stay active and healthy without causing any complications. Thus, this blog features useful exercise tips to help you maintain your physical health during IVF.

Exercising while undergoing IVF can significantly help increase your chances of conception. However, not every type of exercise is beneficial, especially heavy workouts or stressing exercises, which are a big no-no. So, consider sticking to mild and moderate-level exercises. Exercise Within the Comfort Zone

Make sure not to go over the board or push your limits while exercising during IVF. In this case, the amount of exercise and type of workout routine you followed before the treatment can matter greatly.

Whatever your fitness level, avoid engaging in highly cardiovascular and high-impact activities/exercises, as they can lower your chances of a successful cycle.

Do Not Engage in High-Impact Cardiovascular Exercises

As we mentioned, it is advised to avoid strenuous workouts or activities for several reasons. The primary reason is that high-impact exercises can result in ovarian torsion, wherein the ovaries can twist, leading to complications in the process.

Avoid Exercising During Some IVF Stages

The IVF process involves several stages, and doctors highly recommend stopping engaging in any form of exercise or workout during some stages. For instance, doctors advise avoiding exercise before egg retrieval and around the embryo transfer stage. However, every patient’s condition and IVF cycle vary, and it is best to follow the doctor’s advice.

Focus on Doing the Low-Impact Exercises

Several low-impact exercises help relieve stress, and engaging in such activities during the IVF is best. It is also because large bodily movements might consume or take blood away from the uterus and ovaries, and this is not something desirable. Some of the best low-impact exercises are:

  • Yoga, particularly prenatal yoga
  • Walking
  • Light stretching
  • Use of light hand weights
  • Water aerobics
  • Low-intensity swimming
  • Exercise weekly for not more than four hours

According to a 2006 Obstetrics & Gynecology study, exercising or working out for more than four hours during IVF can lower the chances of IVF success. Therefore, make sure to plan the weekly exercise schedule very well, and instead of exercising an hour for four days, break the routine for six or seven days.
